The Department of History offers three years Undergraduate Honours and General Degree courses to the students of Sukanta College. Currently there are two faculty members in the department, who provide a friendly environment in the teaching-learning process as they go beyond the scheduled hours of classroom teaching. The faculties concerned are easily approachable and never hesitate in extending personal care to each and every student in their need.

Basabdatta Chanda previously worked as Project Fellow at China Centre, University of Calcutta from August to December 2007 on China and its relations with Myanmar and Vietnam. She also worked as Project Fellow, under Rajiv Gandhi Chair of the Economics Department in ‘Eco-systems and Sustainable Development,’ documenting the history of the East Kolkata Wetlands area, from September to November 2010. From December 2010 to November 2013, Basabdatta worked as Research Fellow at the Asiatic Society on the ‘Documentation of the History of the Asiatic Society: Proceedings to be updated up to 1947.’ Before joining as an Assistant Professor at Sukanta College, she taught as Part-time Lecturer at the Department of History, Shri Shikshayatan College from August 19, 2013 to January 31, 2015.

From 2009 to 2010 Saibur Rahman Sardar worked as a Part-Time Teacher at Sundarban Hazi Desarat College. In 2010, he joined the Department of History at Sukanta College and presently working as a State Aided College Teacher. From 2015 he is also serving as the coordinator of the Masters Programme, Distance Examination of Rabindra Bharati University (Distance Learning) held at the college.
